Supporting Mental Health, One Step at a Time

We created Heal Before Work Psychology and Consulting, Inc. for people who need space to breathe before going back to the demands of their jobs. Whether you’re dealing with burnout, anxiety, depression, or trauma, we provide licensed mental health care designed to support California workers on leave — and those thinking about taking one.

Our practice focuses on real-world challenges. That includes helping clients manage stress at work, complete State Disability Insurance (SDI) paperwork, or submit documentation. Every service is designed with clarity, privacy, and care in mind.

Why People Choose Us

Dr. Lewis Canyon, the founder of Heal Before Work Psychology and Consulting, Inc. Psychology and Consulting, Inc.  is a California licensed clinical psychologist (PSY34739) who understands how mental health affects people personally and professionally. His practice blends clinical knowledge with lived experience, creating a space that’s culturally aware, trauma-informed, and grounded in real care.

Clients come to us when:

  • They feel emotionally stuck and don’t know where to start
  • They’re unsure how to apply for mental health leave in California
  • Their job performance has suffered due to stress or exhaustion
  • Submit forms for FMLA/CFRA & disability
  • Their doctor, HR rep, or attorney refers them for formal evaluation

We’re here for working professionals, parents, caregivers, and anyone carrying too much. Many of our clients are in high-responsibility fields like healthcare, education, tech, and public service — people who are used to handling everything independently until it becomes too much.

Arrangement Optimism Concept

Supporting Mental Health, One Step at a Time

We don’t believe in rushed care or generic assessments. Your story, symptoms, and goals shape each session. We work with you to complete the forms your employer or insurer requires, and we do it in a way that respects your privacy and mental health needs.

We’re not part of an insurance network. That means no delays, billing confusion, or insurance-driven treatment plans. Instead, we offer private pay services that are straightforward and built to move at your pace.

This is a practice where you can speak honestly, without being rushed or judged. Where your mental health leave is taken seriously — not questioned or minimized.
